Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January.

This year we are commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday, 27 January at 2.00 pm outside the Uppermill Methodist Church (opposite Buckleys). After some speeches and a silent vigil, tea and biscuits will be available inside.

We will be joined by he Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Javid Iqbal
and Debbie Abrahams MP also hopes to be with us. Members of the Oldham Theatre Workshop will also be joining us again. People who came last year will no doubt remember what an energetic and thoughtful contribution they made to the commemoration.

The HMDT web site says – “The theme for HMD 2019, Torn from home encourages [people] to reflect on how the enforced loss of a safe place to call ‘home’ is part of the trauma faced by anyone experiencing persecution and genocide. ‘Home’ usually means a place of safety, comfort and security. On HMD 2019 we will reflect on what happens when individuals, families and communities are driven out of, or wrenched from their homes, because of persecution or the threat of genocide, alongside the continuing difficulties survivors face as they try to find and build new homes when the genocide is over.”

We hope you can join us on the 27th.

Best wishes
